Vidhya Samadhi Development Foundation is the brainchild of its founder Ven. Hipankande Saddhasiri Thero, who was born and had his primary education at Hipankanda, a remote hamlet, close to Galle, in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka.
In 1969, he ordained as a Buddhist monk at the age of 12, at the village temple known as the “Hipankanda Sri Pada Temple”, where he started his noble life by organising a Sunday school as a starter. This began all the social service programmes he implemented in different parts of the country.
Vidya Samadhi Development Foundation has now diversified its community development programmes into two very important and demanding paths.

  • Community Development Programmes for the poor, needy, and destitute people in the most under developed areas in the country.
  • Residential Training Centres for young (novice)  Buddhist  monks,  known as  PIRIVENAS,
