Having beautiful feet marked with a fine wheel,

lakkhaõamaõóita-àyatapaõhã,
his long heels are a characteristic mark,

càmarachattavibhåsitapàdo,
his feet decorated with chowrie and sunshade,

2. Sakyakumàravaro sukhumàlo,
An excellent and graceful Sakyan prince,

lakkhaõacittikapuõõasarãro,
with a body full of characteristic marks,

lokahitàya gato naravãro,
a hero who has come for the world's benefit,

3. Puõõasasaïkanibho mukhavaõõo,
Just like the full moon is his beautiful face,

devanaràna' piyo naranàgo,
dear to gods and men, a Nàga amongst men,

mattagajindavilàsitagàmã,
walking like a charming lord of elephants,

esa hi tuyha pità narasãho.

4. Khattiyasambhava-aggakulãno,
Born into a leading noble family,

devamanussanamassitapàdo,
gods and men revere his feet,

sãlasamàdhipatiññhitacitto,
having virtue and concentration established in his mind,

5. âyatatuïgasusaõñhitanàso,
Having a long, prominent and well-formed nose,

gopakhumo abhinãlasunetto,
cow-like eyelashes, beautiful deep black eyes,

indadhanå-abhinãlabhamåko,
his deep black eyebrows (are just like) Indra's bow,

esa hi tuyha pità narasãho.

6. Vaññasumaññasusaõñhitagãvo,
Having a round, sizeable, and well-formed neck,

sãhahanå migaràjasarãro,
a lion's jaw, a body like the king of beasts,

kaÿcanasucchavi-uttamavaõõo,
beautiful golden skin, of supreme colour,

esa hi tuyha pità narasãho.
that indeed is your father, a lion of a man.

 

7. Siniddhasugambhiramaÿjusaghoso,
Having a very deep, charming, and sweet voice,

hiïgulabandhusurattasujivho,
with a beautiful tongue, red like vermillion,

vãsativãsatisetasudanto,
with twenty by twenty beautiful white teeth,

esa hi tuyha pità narasãho.

8. Aÿjanavaõõasunãlasukeso,
Having beautiful, glossy, black-coloured hair,

kaÿcanapaññavisuddhanalàño,
a forehead like a plate of purified gold,

osadhipaõóarasuddhasu-uõõo,
and hair between the brows like a pure white star,

esa hi tuyha pità narasãho.

9. Gacchati nãlapathe viya cando,
Like the moon going along the dark night path,

tàragaõàpariveñhitaråpo,
surrounded by a body of stars,

sàvakamajjhagato Samaõindo,
is the Lord of Ascetics in the midst of his disciples,
