The use of the verb with the cognate noun is quite common is Pali. Literally translated it would read feeling a pleasant feeling which is unidiomatic in English.

The sort of feeling indicated here is very primordial, having nothing to do with emotional complexes (which belong to the saïkhàrakkhandha), and comes before perception (saÿÿà) in the cognitive series being the first mental reaction to contact. Vedanà is sometimes translated as sensation, a term which would seem to be better applied to phassa, which comes before vedanà in the pañiccasamuppàda formula and forms the basis for it.
